A few facts about Polish

There are around 46 million people who speak Polish (jezyk polski / polszczyzna) around the world, which makes Polish the second most widely spoken Slavic language after Russian. Polish is the official language of Poland, an official language of the EU and a recognised minority language in the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine. The Polish language belongs to the West Slavic branch of the Indo-European language family.

While written Polish has been largely standardised since the mid-16th century, there are five different regional dialects of spoken Polish: Greater Polish, Lesser Polish, Masovian, Silesian and Kashubian (this last one, however, is sometimes considered to be a separate language). Polish is closely related to Czech, Slovak and Sorbian.

Poland as a business location

Poland plays an important role in the European economy. Poland’s economy has undergone extensive structural transformation since 1989. Today, companies in the country’s automotive industry, mechanical engineering industry, electrical and chemical industries, mining and metallurgical industries, and food production and timber industries all produce goods that are highly competitive on the global market. Poland’s biggest trading partner is Germany, followed by China, Italy, France and the Czech Republic.
Poland’s gross domestic product in 2021 amounted to 680 billion US dollars, and it is growing fast. Poland receives a high inflow of foreign investment, notably from the UK and France, due to its geographical location, EU membership, stable economic framework, skilled workforce and comparatively low labour costs.
Poland’s automotive industry accounts for around 15% of the country’s total value creation and has become the innovation focal point of the Polish economy. Around 40% of the 500 listed companies in Central and Eastern Europe that record the highest revenues are headquartered in Poland, which makes the Polish economy a clear leader in the region.

Whether it’s management or business texts, websites, technical or legal documents, product data sheets, press releases or newsletters that you need translated – probicon exclusively uses native professional translators with industry-specific knowledge and offers experienced specialist translators for every specialised field.
