A few facts about Hungarian

There are around 14 million native Hungarian speakers; ten million of them live in Hungary. Hungarian is the official language of Hungary and is an official language of the European Union, of Vojvodina (in Serbia), and of some regions of Slovenia. Hungarian is a recognised minority language in Croatia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Burgenland (in Austria) and Transcarpathia (in Ukraine).

Hungarian (magyar nyelv) belongs to the Ugric branch of the Finno-Ugric languages within the Uralic language family. The Hungarian alphabet also includes the letters Á, É, Í, Ó, Ö, Ő, Ú, Ü and Ű, as well as the digraphs cs, dz, gy, ly, ny, sz, ty, zs and the trigraph dzs, all of which count as separate letters. This brings the total number of letters in the Hungarian alphabet to 40.
The first inscriptions of Hungarian date back to the ninth century and the oldest surviving Hungarian text was written at the end of the 12^th century.
